Viral Vector Core

About Us

Our mission is to provide researchers with a single facility where they can access a comprehensive range of resources and services for gene transfer purposes. The Core constructs purifies, and titers custom recombinant adenovirus, adeno-associated virus, and lentivirus. The core is administered via the Department of Physiology and Biophysics and is physically located in COMRB2082. Services

Adenovirus:

• Track 1: Crude amplification of adenovirus from customer's virus, ~1 week time, volume: 0.5~1ml, No titration.

• Track 2: Amplification of adenovirus from customer's virus, ~ 2 weeks time, volume: 1-2 ml, Titer: >1X10^9 pfu/ml.

• Track 3: Generation of adenovirus – individual investigators construct the shuttle vector, verify, and supply the DNA to the core.  Core does recombination and virus generation, amplifies 1 time, volume: 1-2 ml, ~ 1-2 months. Titer: >1X10^9 pfu/ml.

Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV): Core has AAV serotypes (1, 2, 8, and 9) currently.

• Track 1: Investigator provides sufficient verified AAV shuttle DNA. 1-2 months time, ~0.5ml, Titer: >1X10^13 vector genomes (Vg/ml)

Lenti-/Retro-virus:

• Track 1: Crude virus amplification from customer's vector, ~ 1 week time, volume: ~10ml, No titration

• Track 3: Amplification of Lenti-/Retro-virus from customer's vector, ~ 4 week time, volume: 0.1 ~ 1ml, Titer: >1X10^7 TU/ml or 1X10^8 particles/ml

Virus titration

The viral vector core can measure your virus titer.

• Track 1: Virus (Adenovirus, lentivirus, and retrovirus) with a fluorescence report gene: the price is $30/one virus.

• Track 2: Virus (Adenovirus, lentivirus, and retrovirus) without a fluorescence report: the price is $80/one virus.

• Track 3: Adeno-associated virus: the price is $60/one virus.

Subcloning:

• Core does subclone for virus vectors with knockdown, knockout, overexpression, tagging, etc.

  If the size of the gene is over 2kb, we will charge $50.00 for every 1kb.

Users are strongly encouraged to contact Dr. Youn in the planning process of a project.

Please note, Investigators from Northwestern University and the University of Chicago are provided internal rates as all UIC users. All other users can access services but, at either external academic or external non-academic rate.
