COVID-19 UPDATE:  June 3, 2020

As of June 8th, Research Resources Center (RRC) cores will begin to work on all projects and services as well as open shared equipment schedules. There will be new guidelines issued by each core due to COVID19 for the use of shared equipment, sample drop off, etc. We expect delays for new projects and services due to the collection of backlogs, and we kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this transition time. Please reference each core’s new user guidelines before requesting services, projects, or scheduling equipment. All questions or inquiries must be sent by email and/or scheduled by phone call/video conference call to respective core.

Notice to all Research Resources Center Customers

In order to minimize COVID-19 spread, the Research Resources Center, Genome Research Core is implementing the following temporary mandatory guidelines for using this core:


  • All customers entering the core space must wear new, clean Gloves will be provided if you do not have your own
  • If there is a need to remove gloves, wash your hands with soap frequently and for at least 20 seconds. Do not touch your face or other individuals. Replace gloves as soon as possible
  • Instead of shaking hands, exchange greetings with a wave, bow, or nod
  • When using real-time PCR or Nanodrop instruments, gloves must be worn
  • Try to keep at least one meter/three feet distance between yourself and others
  • Limit the number of people in shared space rooms (g., A310) to two at a time
  • Disinfect anything you have used during your visit with 70% ETOH after every use. Disinfectant will be provided adjacent to instrumentation
  • We are temporarily cancelling group training sessions for real-time PCR instrumentation. Please contact facility staff for more information (
  • If you have any flu like symptoms (g., fever, cough, shortness of breath) please do not use the core services. You should stay home and follow the appropriate guidelines as indicated by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) -

The University of Illinois at Chicago, Genome Research Core strives to support your research efforts by providing access to equipment, technical and scientific expertise, and rapid sample analysis at a reasonable price. In addition to providing technical services, our staff and director are happy to provide advice on choosing proper reagents, training on self-use instrumentation, and on developing the right technical and scientific approach for the analysis of your samples. Hours of Operation

Regular business hours for the DNA Services Facility are 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday - Friday. Between 11:30 A.M. and 2:30 P.M. is half an hour lunch break (the exact time varies depending on how busy it is, so please call ahead if you will need assistance).


Oligo Synthesis

Oligos are delivered to the facility after 15:00. We do not notify individuals when oligos have arrived, but you may call to see if your oligo has arrived after 15:00.
