ALERT

Dear researchers,

We are pleased to announce three new Research Resources Center (RRC) core facilities as part of our infrastructure for researchers within UIC and partner institutions. These new cores include the UIC Biorepository Core, Metabolic Phenotyping Core and Spatial and Genome Technologies Core. Each is led by a talented scientific director and faculty advisor, allowing researchers access to the most innovative tools and expertise for their research.

Recent economic and federal policy changes have introduced new challenges for university core facilities across the country. These have led to increased expenses and updated cost accounting calculations per university regulations. These new rates will take effect on July 1st, 2025, and will be reflected on the iLab and RRC websites. New service requests submitted on or after this date will be charged the new rates. Our RRC team remains ready to support investigators in finding the most cost-effective and impactful tools to meet their research needs during this period of change and in the future.

Finally, thank you for the crucial work you do to carry out successful research. The RRC remains committed to providing high quality services through the acquisition of new instruments, timely services and the expertise of our dedicated staff.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at rrcinfo@uic.edu.

Spatial and Genome Technologies Core

Spatial & Genome Technologies Core (SGT Core)

University of Illinois Chicago – Research Resources Center

Who Are We?

The Spatial & Genome Technologies (SGT) Core is part of the UIC Research Resources Center (RRC), supporting researchers in the design, execution, and analysis of single cell and spatial projects.

We collaborate closely with other UIC cores, including the UIC Biorepository, Histology Research Core, Research Informatics Core, and the University of Illinois DNA Services Lab, to support seamless, end-to-end research workflows.

What Do We Do?

The SGT Core empowers the UIC research community by providing access to 10x Genomics solutions and expert guidance in:

  • Spatial transcriptomics

  • Single cell genomics

We support projects from experimental design through data interpretation, ensuring scientifically rigorous and reproducible results.

What Services Do We Offer?

Spatial Transcriptomics

We offer standardized workflows and technical support for spatial assays using 10x Genomics platforms:

  • Visium HD Gene Expression

  • Visium Spatial Gene Expression

  • Xenium In Situ Gene Expression

We also advise on tissue preparation and quality control to ensure optimal assay performance.

Single Cell Services

We provide validated workflows and expert support for single cell profiling using the 10x Genomics Chromium system:

  • 3' Gene Expression (standard whole transcriptomic RNAseq)

  • 5' Gene Expression (enables TCR and BCR assembly)

  • Flex Gene Expression (probe-based transcriptome profiling for human and mouse samples)

  • Epi ATAC (open chromatin profiling)

  • Epi Multiome (ATAC + Gene Expression from the same cell)

  • Add-on Protein Expression (cell surface and intracellular protein detection)
